Process and Materials

All fabrics used in our products are printed digitally using low impact, water-based reactive dyes that are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Digital printing allows us to only print what we need for orders and eliminates fabric waste. All of our pieces are sewn by the local sewing community in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Product Materials

We use Organic Cotton and Belgian Linen in our products.

Organic cotton uses 91% less water than conventional cotton and is grown without the use of harmful pesticides which greatly reduces water pollution.

Belgian linen is made from the flax plant. Flax uses very little water to produce and the entire flax plant can be used leaving no waste. The flax plant naturally absorbs CO2.

The Line

The first set of dresses, pillow cases and hand towels highlight the recent loss of select plant lineages in Thoreau’s Woods. Henry David Thoreau documented the abundant diversity of plants in New England in the 1800s. Scientists have recently revealed through resampling, that some of his plant lineages are now in decline as a result of human influence. These pieces feature cyanotype inspired herbarium specimens gleaned from Thoreau’s plant lineages. LEA's entire line is produced and sewn by women.
